I know that property values have gone down, but would this be the best time to become an agent. I know one day the market will jump back up and it’s just a matter of time. Also how do I profit in a time where the economy is out of whack? Are real estate agents and brokers making money still?

Agents and brokers don’t make money unless houses sell. You’ll pay a good amount to become an agent, but right now, (and for the next year at least) you will not get a lot of work because houses just aren’t moving. You’re right about the market picking back up again, but no one at this point in time knows when that will be or how it will happen.
The upside is you’ll have plenty of time to study.
People are still buying and selling houses – but at a much slower rate. Real estate agents are still needed, but the income potential is not as high as it was a few years ago.
As long as it is not your primary source of income, now would be a great time to learn the business and make contacts.
YES! Now is the time to start. It usually takes 6-12 months to build the business.
You have to really like people and socializing. It’s not what you know, but who ya know in this game.
I would wait for a while, things may get worse still.
