Why Did Cheney Donate Millions Of Dollars Of Halliburton Stock Options To Charity In 2005?

a. He is loving and generous Christian
b. He didn’t want to look like a war profiteer because under his (vice) presidency, Halliburton got billions of exclusive government contract to “rebuild” Iraq and this pushed the value of the stock options sky high
c. A special law to increase aid to Katrina victims lifted the ceiling on charitable deductions for one year only, and Cheney wanted to take advantage of it even though he did not give even one dollar to Katrina relief
d. All of the above
e. b and c only

A guilty conscience, and a tax write-off, more than likely.
And his cronies in Haliburton could reward him generously for the hundred billion dollars of taxpayer money that they received once he was out of office.
In that way, it doesn’t appear like a bribe or profiteering.

B is one part of the reason. And he also gets the tax writeoff for that donation – so he gets about 60% of it back from the Govt in the form of tax reductions.
If it were not for the tax writeoffs, ther would be no such thing as a conservative donation.
I’m still watiting for them to start using those billions to “rebuild” iraq. They have hardly done any rebuilding over there.

I would say that “e” covers it best.
A generous Christian man would not shoot his friend in the face while drunk and on an expired hunting license, unless he is a backslider.
The Holy Bible says that in the last days the evil ones will be gnashing their teeth.
Richard (Dick) Cheney has gnashed his teeth all the way down on one side until they’re nubs.

Let me take a stab in the dark and say that you think it is E
While I’m not a Cheney fan, I can’t factually give his personal reasons for doing things. Only he can. And regardless of where the money came from, it went towards a positive cause. It deserves at least a little bit of credit. He could’ve bought some more yachts with it or something if he wanted

Could be any of the above its Cheny’s business to do what he wants with his money. At least he gave something back . Obama gave less than 4ooo to charity until the campaign then he gave 20k to his racist church that came from illegal campaign contributions he was going to have to return anyway.

He milked billions (1 billion = 1,000 million), so by giving a tiny fraction of it back it diverts attention from what he stole and makes him look generous for donating some of the loot. He has over 500 offshore accounts.

    F. he knew with the coming stock market collapse that his paper would be essentially worthless, but this at least made him (temporarily) look like a humanitarian without needing to sacrifice a single penny in reality.

    I’ll go with E.
But I didn’t know about that law. That’s interesting.

Halliburton got billions of exclusive government contract to “rebuild” Iraq and this pushed the value of the stock options sky high
May I give you something to consider, regarding Haliburton?
They were/are the largest construction company in USA.
They have subsidiaries in every field, from sewage to electricity grids, roads, buildings, water, you name it.
No other company is big enough to handle a complete reconstruction of the infrastructure of a large city. Those were neglected for decades.
As for contract terms, that undertaking could only be done on a cost plus basis.
Who in hell could bid a Turnkey Cost on underground projects and electric grids, etc, with no way of knowing the problems that would be encountered?
It’s like remodeling an old house, not knowing all the blind unknowns. They will never be bid as Turnkey, but will contain a clause that extras will add to the cost.
When you grow up and possibly own a business, and know more about things and not what liberals feed you, I’m sure you will have some understanding of the real world.
I’m not connected in any manner with Haliburton, but I think I might have learned a few things after 50 years in business.
Maybe not as much as you know.
There have been claims of “over runs” and /or “bill padding”.
I understand over runs, as explained with “cost plus”, although you don’t.
If any Bill padding is true, then I would be the first in line to condemn it.
As for Katrina victims, I guess you do know that some were still housed in $500 per day hotels, this year, 2009, may still be.
All the thousands of mobile homes, bought and paid for by your tax dollars are now being sold to Katrina victims for $1.00.
    Yes, that’s ONE DOLLAR.
I live on the Gulf Coast. I left an apartment damaged by IKE.
Galveston will never look the same, but, I sure as hell haven’t seen much help for hundreds of people who lost everything.
I just considered not posting this, but, what the hell.
Someone else may learn something even if you don’t.

Why should it matter to you? The only reason it could even matter is that you are envious that you either couldn’t contribute so much, or didn’t get any of that money yourself.
My father had the greatest answer for whenever he was asked why he did something. He would always tell you “I don’t need a reason, just an opportunity”.

Because Democrats are too greedy to give to charities so Cheney did what he could to help people who Democrats pretend to care about, but never do anything to really help.
